February 2014 Field Report & Featured Vodcast

The MAR has been working with various legislators and interested parties on a few pieces of legislation that are winding through the legislative process:

  • Senate Bill 641 – Legislation expanding options for Continuing Education continues on its path toward passage. As you may already know, this bill, sponsored by Senator Mike Kowall (R-White Lake Twp) enables the association to be more responsive to the needs of licensees when it comes to Continuing Education.
  • Senate Bill 640 – Work continues on legislation providing a more level playing field for local governments and private investors during tax auctions. This bill, sponsored by Senator Darwin Booher (R-Evart) aims to curb the “bad actor” bidders who purchase those properties at the tax auctions, and then do not paying taxes on the property, or owe on other properties.
  • House Bill 5277 – This legislation intends to “clean up” the inspection process during the foreclosure redemption period that passed last year. The bill, sponsored by Representative Mike Callton (R-Nashville) strikes a balance between homeowners who are in the redemption period and lenders who want to make sure the homes stay in good condition.
For more in-depth information on each of these bills, please watch the latest MAR Vodcast above.
