Helping Those in Need

The Michigan Realtors® Relief Fund® (“MRRF”) was established to support and expedite the receipt and donation of charitable aid from Michigan Realtors® and supporting organizations in response to the water crisis in the City of Flint in 2016. While the genesis of the MRRF was specific to providing relief in the City of Flint, the MRRF is intended to be ongoing as a 501(c)(3) organization established to provide housing-related assistance to victims of disasters and for other charitable purposes permitted under the Internal Revenue Code.

Note: The Michigan Realtors® Relief Fund is formed as a Domestic Non-Profit Corporation in the State of Michigan for Charitable Purposes. The Michigan Realtors® Relief Fund’s application for 501(c)3 tax exempt status is pending with the IRS. Upon approval of the application, donations made to the Michigan Realtors® Relief Fund will be deductible as a qualifying charitable donation. The Michigan Realtors® Relief Fund distributes 100% of all funds collected to disaster relief causes. All donations made to the fund for the period beginning January 28, 2016 through April 30, 2016, unless otherwise noted prior to receipt of donation, will be designated to support the City of Flint and the East Central Board of Realtors® during the Flint Water Crisis. In addition, the fund guarantees all donors that 100% of their donation will be used for an appropriate disaster relief effort. 


Michigan Realtors® Assist Gaylord Residents Displaced by Tornado

Michigan Realtors® and the Water Wonderland Board of Realtors®, with assistance from the REALTORS® Relief Foundation, are happy to announce a program that provides relief assistance in response to the Tornado that resulted in widespread property damage in Gaylord on May 20, 2022.

On May 20th, an EF-3 Tornado touched down in Gaylord. Michigan Realtors® and the Water Wonderland Board of Realtors® have successfully applied to the REALTORS® Relief Foundation to provide financial relief to those impacted by this natural disaster.

In response to the unforeseen burdens that these residents are forced to face, the REALTORS® Relief Foundation has $100,000 available for individuals and families directly affected by the May 20th Tornado and reside within the State of Emergency Zone as declared by Michigan’s Governor, Gretchen Whitmer. Financial assistance will be provided to cover one month’s rent or mortgage payment for qualified applicants in an amount of up to $1,000 per household until the available funds are fully allocated.

Michigan Realtors® President James Iodice, expressed sympathy for those who involuntarily face enormous challenges brought on by this devasting weather event. “I know I am not alone in conveying our heartfelt support to those impacted by this Tornado. The REALTORS® Relief Foundation is an important aspect of the Realtor® mission to support those communities that we live and work in. We hope these efforts, combined with those of other humanitarian groups, aid in a swift recovery for the people of Gaylord.”

Michigan Realtors® Assist Macomb and Oakland County Residents

Michigan Realtors®, the Greater Metropolitan Association of Realtors®, the North Oakland County Board of Realtors®, and the REALTORS® Relief Foundation will be providing mortgage or rent relief for qualified applicants residing in the counties of Macomb and Oakland. This Realtor® relief program is in response to the hard-hitting line of storms that hit these areas on July 24 and 25, resulting in widespread damage.

During the weekend of July 24 and 25, an intense series of storms struck the Southwest area of Oakland County and traveled through Southern Macomb County. Residents saw up to 105 mph wind gusts, resulting in power outages for more than 100,000 residents and up to 425 homes experienced damage in the Armada and White Lake Townships.

In response to the unforeseen hardships, the above organizations have activated the REALTORS® Relief Foundation to be utilized for a qualified applicant’s mortgage payment or monthly rent if they experienced property damage due to the storms. There is a total of $100,000 available to applicants that reside within the State of Emergency Zone as declared by Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Financial assistance will be provided to cover one month’s rent or mortgage payment for qualified applicants in an amount of up to $1,000 per household until the available funds are fully allocated. Realtors® To Assist Southeast Michigan Flooding Victims

Michigan Realtors®, the Dearborn Area Board of Realtors®, the Detroit Association of Realtors®, the Grosse Pointe Board of Realtors®, and the REALTORS® Relief Foundation will be providing housing assistance for qualified applicants residing in the counties of Wayne and Washtenaw. This Realtor® relief initiative is in response to the substantial rainfall and resultant widespread flooding on June 25-26th of this year.

Over the weekend of June 25th, areas across Metro Detroit were hit by 5-7 inches of rain, resulting in flooded roadways, stranded motorists, damaged homes, and displaced residents. The above organizations have activated the REALTORS® Relief Foundation to provide financial relief to those impacted by the flooding. This relief may be utilized for a qualified applicant’s mortgage payment or monthly rent if they experienced property damage due to flooding.

In response to the hardship that many are now facing, the REALTORS® Relief Foundation has $100,000 available for individuals and families directly affected by the June 25-26th flooding. Applicants will need to verify that they reside within the State of Emergency Zone as declared by Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Financial assistance will be provided to cover one month’s rent or mortgage payment for qualified applicants in an amount of up to $1,000 per household until the available funds are fully allocated. Mid-Michigan Flooding Crisis

Michigan Realtors®, with assistance from the National Association of REALTORS®, provided housing relief assistance to qualified applicants of Arenac, Midland, Saginaw, Gladwin, and Iosco Counties, Michigan. These funds were in response to the unprecedented Mid-Michigan dam breaches on May 19, 2020.

With thousands of Michiganders forced out of their homes, this initiative offered important assistance with up to $1,000 in housing relief per applicant. More than 125 families benefited from this program.
