MAR 2007 Leadership Announced


The Michigan Association of REALTORS® is pleased to announce its incoming leadership for 2007. These members contribute to the visionary strategies that make MAR the first place people think of when they need real estate industry specific advocacy or legal information. The association has established solid credibility maintained by professional, engaged member volunteers, including the officers, board of directors, NAR directors, and local association leadership.

The 2007 MAR officers are as follows: President, Furhad Waquad; President-Elect, Jeff Young; Treasurer, Dan Coffey; and CEO, Bill Martin.

President Waquad, GRI, CRS, ABR, CIPS, RLI, a REALTOR® since 1988, is a Real Estate One team member in Bloomfield Hills. He was awarded the MAR REALTOR® Active in Politics in 2002 and named REALTOR® of the Year in 2003 and is the only MAR member to ever be awarded both of these honors back to back. Waquad was also appointed by Gov. Engler to serve on the Michigan Commission on Asia in Schools, and is a member of the Metropolitan Consolidated Association of REALTORS®.

President-Elect Jeff Young, CRS, GRI, works with Coldwell Banker Woodland Schmidt Realty of Grand Haven. He was named MAR’s 2002 REALTOR® of the Year and has served on many local and state committees, and as a National Association of REALTORS® director. Jeff is also a member of the West Michigan Lakeshore Association of REALTORS® where he has served as president.

Treasurer Dan Coffey, ABR, ABRM, CRS, has been a REALTOR® in Michigan and Indiana since 1981, and principal broker of RE/MAX Harbor Country Real Estate in Union Pier since 1986. A member of the Southwestern Michigan Association of REALTORS®, Dan specializes in selling vacation and getaway homes and is active with advocacy work. Previously he was a ten-year member of the Union City School Board, and currently serves on the local planning commission.

CEO Bill Martin, RCE, has been with MAR for five years. He also sits on the board of trustees at Western Michigan University, his alma mater, and the state board of Habitat for Humanity. Bill has previously served in the U.S. Army with the famed 101st Airborne Division, as a trooper with the Michigan State Police, and four terms with the Michigan House of Representatives, representing Calhoun County. He was also appointed by Gov. Engler as commissioner and CEO of the Michigan State Lottery in 1995 and as the director and CEO of the Michigan Department of Corrections in 1999. Also in 1999, Habitat for Humanity named him its Public Official of the Year.

Along with the officers, MAR welcomes seven new members to its board of directors.

The new Board Members are as follows: Elaine Schraudt (District 1), Northeastern Michigan Board of REALTORS®; Eric Wegner (District 4), Central Michigan Association of REALTORS®; Carl Kaminski (District 6), Southwestern Michigan Association of REALTORS®; Doug Whitehouse (Past President), Metropolitan Consolidated Association of REALTORS®; Steve Fase (Large Office Rep.), Grand Rapids Association of REALTORS®; Mark Piper (MiCAR Representative), Commercial Board of REALTORS®; and Elaine Adkins (Local Association AE Representative), Down River Association of REALTORS®.
