Annual Fair Housing Symposium a Success

The annual Fair Housing Symposium, presented by the Southeastern Michigan Coalition for Fair Housing in recognition of Fair Housing Month was once again a success. The event was held at Shriner’s Auditorium in Southfield on April 25, and was presided over by the coalition’s president, Furhad Waquad.

REALTOR® members were treated to a luncheon and speaker lineup featuring Fred Underwood - Director of Diversity & Community Outreach for NAR, Cathy Cloud - Senior Vice President of the National Fair Housing Alliance, and Nancy Haynes - Director of the Fair Housing Center of Grand Rapids.

Each speaker highlighted the efforts of their organizations in the ongoing effort to promote equal opportunity in housing. In its entirety, the event was a valuable tool for REALTOR® members, emphasizing the importance of promoting fair housing year-round.

During the program, MAR's Senior Vice President, Kathie Feldpausch became the newest Michigan inductee into the Dr. Almon R. “Bud” Smith, RCE, AE Leadership Society. The induction represents an acknowledgement from peers across the country of the important role Kathie has played in elevating the professionalism of the Executive Officers.

The coalition consists of the following boards/associations: Ann Arbor Board of REALTORS®, Dearborn Area Board of REALTORS®, Detroit Association of REALTORS®, Down River Association of REALTORS®, Eastern Thumb Association of REALTORS®, Flint Area Association of REALTORS®, Grosse Pointe Board of REALTORS®, Lapeer & Upper Thumb Association of REALTORS®, Livingston Association of REALTORS®, Metropolitan Consolidated Association of REALTORS®, Michigan Association of REALTORS®, Monroe County Association of REALTORS®, North Oakland County Board of REALTORS® and the Western Wayne Oakland County Association of REALTORS®.
