Over 350 Attend Annual Fair Housing Symposium
The annual Fair Housing Symposium, presented by the Southeastern Michigan Coalition for Fair Housing in recognition of Fair Housing Month was once again a success. The event was held at Shriner’s Auditorium in Southfield on April 4, and was presided over by the coalition’s president, Furhad Waquad.
An audience of over 350 REALTOR® members were treated to a luncheon sponsored by LaSalle Bank while listening to presentations by the National Association of REALTORS’® First Vice President Charles McMillan, Nancy Haynes, J.D., Director of the Grand Rapids Fair Housing Center and Linda Parker, Director of the Department of Civil Rights for the State of Michigan. Each speaker highlighted the efforts of their organizations in the ongoing effort to promote equal opportunity in housing. In addition, attendees of the Fair Housing Symposium qualified for 2.0 hours of continuing education. “In its entirety, the event was a valuable tool for REALTOR® members, emphasizing the importance of promoting fair housing year-round,” said Bob Taylor, chairman, MCAR Equal Opportunity Committee.
Many generous REALTOR® organizations sponsored the event and provided gifts for the raffle. They are: Ann Arbor Board of REALTORS®, Dearborn Area Board of REALTORS®, Detroit Association of REALTORS®, Down River Association of REALTORS®, Eastern Thumb Association of REALTORS®, Flint Area Association of REALTORS®, Grosse Pointe Board of REALTORS®, Lapeer & Upper Thumb Association of REALTORS®, Metropolitan Consolidated Association of REALTORS®, Michigan Association of REALTORS®, Monroe County Association of REALTORS® and the Western Wayne Oakland County Association of REALTORS®.
