The convention early bird registration has past but don’t let that stop you from attending convention. With more than 30 hours of continuing education credits to choose from and the opportunities to network with fellow REALTORS® and vendors there is still lots of value in convention. Your full registration fee includes two receptions, lunch on Thursday and coffee breaks on Thursday and Friday morning and all of the education sessions. To see this many national speakers most conventions would charge twice as much as MAR. Don’t wait, register today and fall into the endless opportunities at convention.

A long, long time ago (well actually it wasn't THAT long ago but that is a good way to start a story so it seems). MAR used to record sessions at the convention and sell them on cassette or CD's for members to purchase. I think I may even have a set or two in storage still. Times have changed and the era of the MP3 players have changed the way we listen and received our music and information. As a person who subscribes to three different podcasts a week I have to say I love being able to hear some of my favorite shows when I have time to listen to them. Now MAR has decided to bring back this on demand learning format to the members through the Live Learning Center that will be offered at convention. Just what is the Live Learning Center? It is a service that will allow you to listen or download almost every session at the MAR convention. You get the opportunity to obtain all the content from convention knowledge sessions for $99. It really is a great value. It will also include linked PowerPoint presentations to the content in addition to speaker handouts. Be sure to check it out and add it to your convention registration or purchase it on site. It is a great way to continue your learning into the months ahead. Visit the Live Learning Center Web Site

It is CE submission time for convention. What does that mean? It means that MAR staff is busy getting session outlines and speaker resumes to submit to the state of Michigan for CE approval. You many not know this but we submit any and every knowledge session at convention for approval as long as it meets the state guidelines for continuing education. This means that there will be over 20 knowledge session submitted totaling more than 35 hours of CE! Where else can you find that many choices in your state CE requirements including your 2 hours of legal with a brand new course from Greg McClelland and Gail Anderson?

The speaker line up is confirmed and session descriptions are now being posted. I think we have some great knowledge sessions lined up for this year. I’m sure you’ll recognize many of the speakers names but there are also a few new ones to our convention. The next up is getting the sessions approved for continuing education credit with the state of Michigan. Check back often to see what has been approved.

The only thing that could be better than TC in the spring or summer time is TC in the fall! I just got back from a trip north to look at some properties and set up the wine tour for convention. Every thing was so pretty. The cherry blooms were just coming out and the bay was a Caribbean blue. Had you not known better you would have thought the water was 70 degrees. Just a breath taking view on the sunny day! I stopped into the resort to check things out. They are just finishing up the new cart and walking paths around the resort as well as a new landscape. The wine tasting room at the resort is open and looks very fun. I’m guessing that may be just as full as the new lobby bar. I’m hoping that Norm will be tending bar when we are there. He is a great bartender at the resort with an amazing story and has interest in becoming a REALTOR®. If you get to meet him enjoy hearing all he knows about the area. He is very passionate about all that the Traverse area has to offer. While in town I had lunch at Hanna Bistro on Cass just a couple of blocks off Front Street, they had amazing food. I would highly recommend them if you enjoy creative food dishes. I also had a couple appetizers at Aire, the new restaurant and bar at the top of the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa tower. Also an incredible experience. Five and half months until convention and I can’t wait for you to see all the cool stuff that TC has to offer. You can really fall into an education adventure at the convention this year.

Welcome to our MAR 2009 Convention & Expo Blog! I will be posting regular updates regarding the convention & expo. Check back often to read about all the great things you can fall into during convention.
Now to get things going…
What do you get for 17 million dollars? A beautifully renovated Grand Traverse Resort & Spa to host our convention & expo. Same great location with an amazing new look. I can already envision the lobby bar filled with networking members. Northern Michigan hospitality during fall color season and to make it better in 2008 the resort received their “LEADER” certification by Green Lodging Michigan. The excitement is building…make sure you are part of it!
