MAR Convention Quickly Approaching

This year’s Convention will be held September 29-October 1 at the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort in Mt. Pleasant. As in previous years, one of the biggest highlights during the MAR Convention and Expo is the RPAC Silent Auction. Local REALTOR® associations from around Michigan generously contribute items and gift baskets which grab the attention of everyone who attends, while also helping raise RPAC dollars which are critical to safeguarding the real estate industry. The success of the auction is only as good as the items donated by our local associations and past contributions by each local association have been outstanding! Thank you to all of our local associations for their annual support of this event.

We would love to have 100 percent participation from each of our boards, and if there is anything the MAR can do to help accomplish this, please let us know. As a reminder, local associations also have the option of making an RPAC II corporate contribution toward the Silent Auction in lieu of a basket or item. The contribution can come from either the local boards or their Multiple Listing Service (MLS). The MAR Auction Task Force and MAR staff will then buy items for the bidding with the local association corporate contribution. The locals will still get full credit for their contributions at the Auction.

RPAC II Contributions should be sent to the MAR offices, attention Brad Ward by Friday, September 24th. If you decide to bring your item or basket to Convention, please bring it to the MAR registration desk. Otherwise, please contact your local field staff as they would be happy to coordinate getting your item to Convention for you.

Deadline to Submit Your REALTOR® Honor Nominations this Friday, August 13

Don't miss the chance to honor your members, and represent your local association at MAR’s 2010 Convention & Expo by submitting your REALTOR® of the Year Award nominations. REALTOR® of the Year is the highest honor bestowed upon a Michigan REALTOR®. It stands for integrity, individual achievement and perhaps the greatest compliment: recognition from peers in the real estate industry.

Also, each year the REALTOR® Active in Politics award honors a REALTOR® who selflessly volunteers in the political arena. Candidates are judged based on active support and leadership of membership through political involvement at the state and local association levels, personal involvement with influencing public policy, and promotion and contribution to RPAC.

Please note a change in schedule for the ROTY nominees. In order to allow nominees the opportunity to attend the Expo Opening, on Wednesday, September 29th we will be having an Honor 'N' Mingle Luncheon for the nominees plus one guest as well as their local AE. Also in attendance will be the MAR Board of Directors and Officers, followed immediately by the initial Grand Assembly rehearsal. During the luncheon, which will take place from 1:00pm-2:30pm, photos will be taken of the local nominees with MAR President Bob Taylor and awards will be given at that time. Once a final rehearsal has taken place, the nominees will have approximately 20 minutes to take their awards to their room, freshen up, and return before the Grand Assembly begins at 4:00pm.

To start the nomination process for your association, you can find the necessary forms on the MAR Web site. All entries are to be sent to Julie Rowell, with "ROTY Nomination" or "RAP Nomination" in the subject line.* Please include a high quality photo with your nomination form.
