September 2006 Field Report - West Michigan
By: Kyle Olson – West Michigan Field Director
Help spread the word about issues affecting REALTORS®
In addition to huge races for elective office in Michigan, voters will also be deciding 5 proposals on November’s ballot. The Michigan Association of REALTORS® has weighed in on Proposal 4 (Eminent Domain) and Proposal 5 (K-16 Spending Mandate).
Recent polling on Proposal 4 shows the public looks favorably on the constitutional amendment and stands a good chance of passage. Proposal 5, however, will be funded with ample resources and its passage could be detrimental to real estate in Michigan. It is a much more controversial issue than Proposal 4 and one that could have grave consequences for years to come on the state budget and perhaps even property taxes in Michigan.
MAR staff is available to attend general membership meetings, boards of directors meetings, office sales meetings, or any other type of group that you think may be interested in getting background on the proposals to share with fellow REALTOR® members or citizens in general.
To contact MAR staff, please call (800) 454-7842 for more information.

RPAC Success
Once again, the members of this association stepped up and showed their commitment to RPAC at the 2006 Michigan Association of REALTORS® convention. The 2nd Annual RPAC Putting Challenge brought in close to $2,500 and spectators were treated to a thrilling finish by finalists Susan Yeotis of the Flint Area Association of REALTORS® and Gary Bailey from the West Central Association of REALTORS®. After several clutch putts by both members, Gary emerged victorious after sinking one last putt following a near miss by Susan. Special thanks to RPAC Chairwoman Teri Spiro for her generous donation of this year’s prize – a 14 karat white gold diamond necklace. Congratulation again, Gary!
In addition to the $2,500 brought in by the putting challenge, our silent auction was again hugely successful. Thanks to the extraordinary level of participation from our local boards and associations, we were able to raise over $10,000 for a combined total of just under $14,000 for RPAC in just one day! Thank you to all who participated and please continue to support RPAC both financially and by encouraging your fellow members to contribute today.
