In 2010, Leigh was inducted into the RE/MAX Hall of Fame, in 2011 she received the prestigious RE/MAX Lifetime Achievement award and in 2013 she was named the North Carolina CRS of the Year. Paul Bishop - Economic Update
Paul Bishop is the Vice President for Research at the National Association of Realtors®. Dr. Bishop leads the Research Division’s survey and research activities including analysis of real estate business and policy issues. Dr. Bishop is a frequent speaker at Realtor® association events and a frequent commentator on market trends. Dr. Bishop participates in the Harvard Industrial Economists Roundtable and has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Housing Research. He is also a contributor to the McKinsey Quarterly Online Executive Panel. Prior to joining NAR in 2001,
Dr. Bishop was a Senior Financial Economist in the Division of Insurance at the FDIC. Between 1991 and 1996, Dr. Bishop was a Senior Economist at the WEFA Group in the Regional Consulting and Forecasting Group where he managed the state and metropolitan area forecasting service and worked with clients on numerous consulting projects. Dr. Bishop is a member of the American Society of Association Executives, the American Economic Association, the American Real Estate Society and the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association. Dr. Bishop earned his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and resides in Alexandria, Virginia.
Bing Goei - Closing Keynote
To know the life story of Mr. Bing Goei is to understand the mission of the first-of-its-kind Michigan Office for New Americans or MONA, of which he was named as its first director by Governor Rick Snyder in 2014. And that mission is to attract global talent, integrate and empower new Americans in Michigan; to cultivate the entrepreneurial spirt of our immigrant communities; and to make Michigan a more welcoming state. Mr. Goei’s life story of opportunity, hard work and giving back, affirms the purposeful work of MONA and the dedication of the man who leads its efforts.
As an immigrant himself, Mr. Goei is forever grateful for the wonderful opportunity his family was given when they immigrated to the United States. An easy, but secure immigration process allowed his parents to leave Indonesia with Bing and his siblings, and, via the Netherlands, come to Michigan in 1960. Under such favorable circumstances, Bing became a proud Asian-American, and with a lot of hard work, he pursued the American dream. As an entrepreneur he started a successful business, and became a top job creator in West Michigan. He raised a family. Mr. Goei and his wife of 48 years, Jean, are proud parents of five children and 16 grandchildren. Today, he continues to contribute on so many levels to the Grand Rapids community he’s been proud to call home, almost all his life.
In 2001, Mr. Goei purchased Eastern Floral out of bankruptcy and rebuilt the Eastern Floral Company, which has become a Top 50 Teleflora florist with five West Michigan locations in Holland, Grand Rapids and Grand Haven. His passion for entrepreneurship and diversity led him to create the International Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence, a business incubator offering low-cost space to young, minority and female entrepreneurs in Grand Rapids. Mr. Goei has received numerous honors as an entrepreneur, including the 2005 West Michigan Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, has been inducted into the Junior Achievement West Michigan Business Hall of Fame and most recently awarded the West Michigan American Red Cross Clara Barton Humanitarian of the Year Award. He is involved with many community organizations, including current service on the TALENT 2025 CEO council and the West Michigan Asian American Association board of directors, and past service with the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce and APACC.
As a director of MONA, Mr. Goei is a uniquely qualified ambassador who is committed to “pay forward” his good fortune by working tirelessly on behalf of New Americans today who also want to call Michigan home – by cultivating partnerships and making known the many resources that will help afford new immigrants opportunities to succeed . . . get connected to jobs to earn a living and contribute to our economy and culture, and to raise a family. Gail Anderson received her undergraduate degree and law degree (cum laude) from the University of Illinois in 1985. Ms. Anderson represents developers, lenders, real estate brokers, title companies, and other businesses. She is a past chairperson of the Real Property Law Section of the State Bar. Ms. Anderson has authored numerous articles in the Michigan Real Property Review and is a frequent lecturer on real property law matters for both the Real Property Law Section and the Institute of Continuing Legal Education.
Ernie Bottom entered the Real Estate industry in 1987 when he joined The Enterprise. Based in Milwaukee, WI, The Enterprise developed products such as Television Home Shows, Property Hotline Systems, Greeting Card Follow-Up Programs, Broker Web Sites and Agent Marketing Videos. After the Enterprise was acquired by HomeStore, Ernie put his industry knowledge to work as a sales engineer for the national account and large broker division. Most recently Ernie worked at Fidelity National Financial’s Cyberhomes.com, helping bring the site to the forefront of listing aggregation and property valuations. Currently, Ernie for the NAR’s Realtors Property Resource where he is the Manager of Industry Relations for the eastern half of the United State. In his more than 20 years in the industry, Ernie has had the privilege to work with many of the top brokers, marketing directors, IT managers and Realtor® Associations in the nation.
Thomas W. Cronkright II is a founding member of Sun Title Agency and serves as its Chief Executive Officer. He is a licensed title producer in multiple states. Tom is an attorney admitted to practice in the State of Michigan and holds a real estate broker’s license. His primary responsibilities include marketing, strategic planning, business development, and oversight of the company’s commercial property division.
Tom was previously an attorney in the business and corporate practice groups of Warner Norcross & Judd LLP and Miller, Canfield, Paddock & Stone, P.L.C. In 2004, Tom formed Corporate Advisors PLC, a private law firm that specializes in legal and corporate strategy services for businesses and business owners. Tom received his B.A. degree in finance from Western Michigan University and his law degree from Wayne State University.
Dr. Daniels and Son Investment Real Estate Capital offers direct, private money for real estate investments. The Daniels family has been investing in real estate and purchasing Land Contracts and private (seller-held) notes and mortgages for three generations. Allan Daniels has been licensed in Michigan Real Estate since 1988. In addition to being a 3rd generation real estate investor, Allan has held 3 state-appointed positions and served in many key leadership positions within real estate and mortgage trade associations on the local, state, and national level. In Michigan, Allan served as President of the Michigan Mortgage Brokers Association (MMBA) in 2000, was named MMBA Broker of the Year for 2001, 2002, and 2003, and was the first recipient of the MMBA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. In addition to his work within Michigan, Allan previously served in the National Association of Mortgage Brokers (NAMB) as its Treasurer, Director, and Regional Vice Chair of the NAMB Legislative Committee for the Midwest Region.
From 2008-2016, Allan served five terms as Chairman of the State of Michigan Mortgage Industry Advisory Board, the body that makes recommendations to the Director of the Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS), the state agency that regulates mortgages and land contracts. In 2011 and 2012, Allan served on the Insurance and Finance Advisory Rules Committee to produce proposals to the state Office of Regulatory Reinvention (ORR) to recommend changes to Michigan’s regulatory climate help ensure that Michigan’s regulatory environment is simple, fair, efficient, and conducive to business growth and job creation. In 2016, Governor Snyder appointed Allan to a 4-year term on the Michigan Board of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons. Housed within the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the nine-member board oversees the licensure and practice of real estate brokers and salespersons in Michigan.
Allan currently serves as Vice Chair of the Public Policy Committee for the Michigan REALTORS®, the CE Marketplace Content Review Task Force, and is the 2017 Vice Chair of NAR’s Regulatory Issues Forum. Allan is an approved real estate and mortgage continuing education instructor, has frequently testified as an industry expert before Committees of the Michigan Senate and House of Representatives, and has been published in numerous mortgage and real estate trade journals and media outlets including The Washington Times, Bloomberg, NPR-Michigan Radio, and The Wall Street Journal. Allan is a lifelong resident of Bloomfield Township, where he resides with his wife, Kelly, his son, Michael, and daughter, Leah. Allan is a graduate of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
Matt Davis, GRI, Associate Broker grew up in Historic Marshall Michigan graduating from Marshall High School in 1988 and then earned a Bachelor of Science from Miami University in Oxford, OH in 1992. Matt, a second generation Realtor® and Broker with Rose-mary Davis REALTORS® in Marshall, has been actively involved in both his community and with Realtor® associations throughout his 19-year career. He has served 15 years on the BCAAR Board of Directors including 2 stints as President, was BCAAR’s Realtor® of the Year in 2004, 2007 and 2016, and currently serves as Treasurer and is on the MLS, Budget, Government Affairs and Pro-Standards committees. With the Michigan Realtors®, Matt has serves the Michigan Realtors® Public Policy Committee (Past Chair) as well as past stints as the District 7 Director, the RPAC Trustees (Past Chair), the Convention Committee, numerous task forces and was the proud recipient of the Michigan Realtors® Realtor® Active in Politics (RAP) Award in 2005. In 2015, Matt was named State Realtor® of The Year by the Michigan Realtors®. In 2012, Matt was appointed by Michigan Governor Rick Snyder as a professional member of the State Board of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons. He was re-apppointed in 2016 and is the current Chairperson of that licensing board. Nationally, Matt was appointed as the Michigan RPMIC (Realtor® Party Member Involvement Committee for NAR in 2006,and in that position serves as a “whip” for Michigan’s 16 Federal Political Coordinators (FPC’s) as well as coordinating NAR grassroots activity in Michigan. He was FPC for former Congressman Joe Schwarz (MI-7), and is the current FPC for Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-7), and has also served on the NAR Grassroots Strategic Plan workgroup and the NAR Public Policy Coordinating Committee.
James Griffith Dewling is a 4th generation Realtor® from Griffith Realty in Brighton, Michigan. James graduated from Michigan State University’s Eli Broad College of Business and was recognized as a High Honor Student-Athlete. Prior to his Real Estate career, he worked in Tampa, Florida, for an international risk mitigation and crisis avoidance company. Although he was not selling real estate, his first real estate lesson was in Tampa where he should have been prompted of the company's moved location. In addition to listing and selling homes, James is engaged with Michigan Realtors as the Vice-Chair for YPN and a RPAC investor. Outside of real estate, his passions include playing competitive golf and coaching at Detroit Catholic Central where the Shamrocks have won the last two Division 1 State Championships. Although James realizes he will never fit into his broker/mothers heels, he understands that he needs long strides to keep up with Carol Griffith in order to follow in her footsteps.
